Although 3D film was again a massive topic of Comic-Con 2010 this week after Avatar stole the show last year, not everyone was singing the tune of the 3D film technology. Two big Hollywood players - J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon - were not particularly excitable about the future of 3D film. Abrams promised his upcoming Super 8 would not be in 3D, while Whedon is hoping to capitalize on 2D, flaunting the hype of the anti-3D-revolution.
"We're hoping to be the only horror movie coming out that is not 3D," said Whedon when asked if his long-awaited Cabin In the Woods would be converted. He even suggested the posters carry the tag line, "It's painterly!"
Meanwhile, such movies as Cowboys and Aliens and The Expendables boasted of their traditional 2D approach. Director Jon Favreau, who use a few of the Marvel tricks he learned promoting Iron Man to preside over a raucous Cowboys presentation, said producers considered making the movie 3D but didn't like the conversion process. "Take the money you save (without have to pay for 3D tickets) and see it twice!" he yelled to fans.
