Toshiba have gracefully landed themselves at the high end of the 3D TV market with the release of a new line of impressive looking TVs, called the Cell Regza collection. The three models in the collection are the 55" 55X2 and 55XE2 and the 46" 46XE2. All three models offer 2D to 3D conversion, a 3TB hard drive, and 3D “Super Resolution” technology.
The collection offers support for Opera browser as well as HDMI, DLNA, LAN, and up to eight USB drives. Users can record programming from up to eight separate channels simultaneously, either to the internal hard drive or directly to a Blu-ray disc, which probably wouldn't get a lot of use by the average Jo.
The 55X2 is the spearhead of the series, priced to match, with 9,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a 1,000cd/m2 maximum luminance, and a 240Hz refresh rate.
All three will be available in Japan in October. Pricing starts at under $7,000 for the 46-inch edition and goes up to just under $8,000 for the 55XE2 and $11,000+ for the 55X2. Whoa.
Toshiba aren't going to attract too many everyday punters with those prices, but it will give them spec cred for being at that end of the market, which is important in markets like Japan.
